On Thursday, July 25th, Logan officially verbally committed to play soccer at the University of Portland.
I think I knew once he came home from the camps that he really wanted to play soccer there.
And I knew that the coaches had shown a great interest in him.
And I knew that the coaches were calling him and selling the University of Portland to him.
And then the coaches wanted to have a family conference call, where they pitched their school and soccer program to us.
I encouraged Logan to ask lots of questions and spend some time thinking about it before he formally committed.
But lets be real, it didn't take too long for him to be pretty convinced that University of Portland is where he should be.
So on Thursday, July 25th, he came in from swimming and he had missed a coach's call to him.
We talked again as a family and Logan felt sure of his decision. He called them back and told him he was officially verbally committing to play for them.
After he made the call, we told him he needed to call his coaches and his grandparents.
He called his goalie coach, his club coach, and his high school coach.
Mr. Tronson and Javi both told him how proud of they were of him.
He called Grandma and Papa Kreider and Grandma and Papa Nelson too.
Logan told Grandma, "I'm going to be a Pilot" but then he corrected himself. He's not going to be an airline pilot, but the mascot is the pilots. He laughed about that.
Cristy and I figured out that the Pilots play Gonzaga so we would def need to go to that game :).
His goalkeeper coach made an Instagram post.
And then finally we allowed Logan to make his announcement public too.
This is just a first step in a long process that will continue through his senior year.
I do know that this is a huge weight off of Logan's shoulders.
He's definitely happy to have made a decision and have a vision for his future.
A mom texted me a few days later.
We aren't done with soccer yet...
We've got lots to look forward to with this little soccer star!
Celebration cartwheel for her goal.
Maybe she'll be our next goalkeeper!
