Logan's 16th Birthday (and Ry's Rush Cup)!

Rylan had a soccer tournament in Burlington that started on Friday afternoon so Ry and I were there.
I was hoping they'd lose on Friday and Saturday (but Ry still play well) and we'd get to go home after the Saturday game, but they ended up winning all three games, putting us in the championship round on Sunday.

Ry had a great tournament.

Presley and Dave hung birthday balloons for me since I wasn't home.

Logan had to work on his birthday so he was up very early (he told me later that the balloons scared him as he walked out his door that morning).
Dave got him to work and told him to text him on his way down and he'd be there to pick him up.
Logan had been getting done anytime between 1 and 4, but the DMV closes at 2:30 on Saturday, so he was crossing his fingers that he'd be able to go get his picture taken for the official license today (or he would have had to wait until Tuesday as the DMV is closed on Sunday and Monday).

Logan texted him at 1:15 that they were on there way down.
He still had plenty of time to get to the DMV.
But then his carpool wanted to stop and buy him a 7-11 Slurpee for his birthday.
And then, as they were driving away,  a lady ran out of gas so all the boys got out of the car and helped her push her car into the 7-11 gas station.
Finally, they made it to the park and ride, and Dave said the boys were all yelling at Logan to "hurry up, get outta here", because by this time, it was getting close to 2:00.
But they made it!!!!

Logan did smile for the actual picture.
He had tried to wash his face the best he could in the bathroom before the picture.
It's really not the best license picture, but he didn't care at all.

They made it back home with a legal drivers license in hand.
Logan took a shower and drove for the first time by himself to get gas.
Then he came back and took Presley and Harper down to Sunnyslope to play.
Dave texted me this picture and video of him pulling out of the driveway, and I was kind of glad that I wasn't there standing in a puddle of tears.

Grandma and Papa Nelson came over for swimming, pizza and cake and ice-cream later that night.

Ry had 2 games on Sunday.
They won the first game 2-1 to get into the championship game at 3:00.
But they lost 1-0 and took 2nd place for this tournament.
Ry beat this defender to the ball and had a shot on goal, but was just wide on his shot.
2nd place
Washington Rush Cup, Silver Division
