Lea's Day-Lea's, Week 12

Day 78, Wednesday, March 19th
We each filled out our March Madness brackets.
After the end of the first round Logan, Harper and Dad were tied for first place with 29 wins.
Logan will be falling fast though...Duke lost in the first round and he had them going to the final four.

Day 79, Thursday, March 20th
I've received a lot of nice e-mails and cards regarding the 100th celebration.
Someday when the kids read this I want them to know what others thought about their mom.

Day 80, Friday, March 21st
Heading out for an evening date:  Parent Night at the Pybus.
This was another Sunnyslope Fundraiser and I was on the organizing committee. We had a fun night and stayed from the beginning to the end, leaving Logan and Presley in charge for almost 4 hours.

Day 81, Saturday, March 22nd
After Logan's game and lunch we took my car through the car wash.  Harper is still afraid of the sprayers near her window.  Why is she naked?  Because we went to lunch and she spilled her water all over herself.  Her clothes were too wet to wear any longer.

Day 82, Sunday, March 23rd
Our first Dairy Queen Dilly Bar of the year.
It's amazing how 55 degrees can feel like summertime after a cold winter.

Day 83, Monday, March 24th
Report card day.  I thought Mrs. Jansen's comments about Rylan were so sweet.
Presley had super nice comments too but her teacher doesn't do report cards quite the same way.

Day 84, Tuesday, March 25th
Presley's first (of many) orthodontic appointments.
She doesn't need braces...yet.
We need to wait until she loses all her baby teeth.
Dr. Merrill said probably around the age of 12.

Lea's Day-Lea's, Week 11

Day 71, Wednesday, March 12th
Another nice day and Ry has started his spring training program.  He asked us to come outside to watch him do this.

Day 72, Thursday, March 13th
We needed to go pick up Presley from "Math is Cool" and these 3 took a car selfie.

Day 73, Friday,  March 14th
I picked up Harper from pre-school and they were outside at recess.
I saw her swing all by herself.
Teaching your child to use a toilet and pumping their legs on the swing are two of the greatest parenting wins!!

Day 74, Saturday, March 15th
Dad took Logan and Presley to the State AAU tournament in Spokane and we stayed back and went to see The Lego Movie.
And they played like this the rest of the afternoon.  It was so delightful.

Day 75, Sunday, March 16th
I took Ry and Harper to the park to play.  It was pretty windy and chilly but they did have fun.

Day 76, Monday, March 17th
Happy St. Patrick's Day 2014

St. Patrick's Day 2010 and 2011 too

Day 77, Tuesday, March 18th
Harper likes to do homework at the table with Rylan after school.  She usually colors but today I wrote our names and asked her to write them too.  This is the first time she's ever copied words and I was pretty pleased.  I could definitely tell she has had lots of practice writing her own name.

Saint Patrick's Day 2014

Ry woke up this morning and ran upstairs to my bathroom as I was getting ready.  He announced very excitedly that "an elf peed in the toilet downstairs".  And noone used the bathroom downstairs the rest of the day.

And when we got downstairs we noticed our sneaky leprechaun left some gold coins, shamrock undies, and green body wash.

Mom made a green breakfast of green eggs, green milk, and green grapes.

Logan was happy and playful after school today.  He told me most kids didn't even wear green to school.  Then he said he was lucky his mom thought of these things.
And I almost fainted from the compliment and then felt like crying that my son recognizes these little things.
I'm sure the sweetness had nothing to do with the McDonald's Shamrock Shakes I treated the kids to.

How lucky am I?

Bring in the Spring: AAU tourney: March 7th-9th

We traveled to Spokane for Logan's AAU tournament.  We decided to splurge a little and stay at The Davenport Hotel.

We drove up on Friday night.  Presley was so impressed with the valet that opened her door for her, the kids were impressed with how ornate and grand the lobby of the Davenport is,  and that our room was on the ninth floor.  Rylan said the hotel reminded him of Disneyland's Tower of Terror.

I can see it...
Plus Logan noticed there was no 13th floor and wondered why the elevator jumped from 12 to 14. Daddy asked, "haven't you ever been on the Tower of Terror?"  so I'm sure Ry was thinking of that too.

Rylan liked this statue that was near the door to load up into our car...

But they were mostly impressed with the huge walk in shower...

And the giant beds...

And the room service we ordered that night...

We went swimming on both nights (Harper in the hot tub)...

We played our first of three Saturday games at 11:00.
Logan likes to listen to music with his headphones and Harper
was imitating him by using her DVD headphones that were NOT playing anything.
We lost the first game by 8 points and I thought it might be a long week-end.  But we came back with wins in the second and third games.
We had a long break between the first and second games so we hung around White Elephant.
Dave and I both remembered visiting this store as children.
We also drove out to Krispy Kremes for doughnuts for the next morning.

Our first game on Sunday was at 11:00 again so we had breakfast and headed to the game.
We won our first Sunday game.  Things were looking good...we were in the championship at 3:30.
I really do try to take some pics of Logan playing, but I'm often distracted by two certain crazies...
Presley did a great job of keeping herself busy this week-end making loom bands.
We ended up winning the championship vs. the TarHeels, the team we had lost our very first game to.  It was great redemption. Logan played solid all weekend long.

Champions of Bring in the Spring:  6th grade AAU

Unloading from our car at about 8:00 on Sunday...
Basketball can wear a little girl out!!

Another Rylan Birthday Celebration: March 2nd, 2014

Daddy was out of town in San Diego for Rylan's actual birthday so we decided to have Grandma and Papa Nelson over for dinner and cake and ice cream on Sunday, March 2nd.   Ry chose to have ginger pasta tonight with a chocolate cake and white frosting.

Tonight was also the night of the Academy Awards and Presley and Harper put on a performance using the ribbons from the packages.  They sang "Let it Go" (Frozen)
He really liked this wrestling ring from Grandma and Papa.

Rylan is SEVEN: 2-27-14

Rylan,
Today you are SEVEN years old!!  Who said you could grow up and turn into such a handsome little man?

Before school this morning.

My last picture of you as a six year old.
I took this when I tucked in Logan for the night.
He turned on his lamp and you rolled over, keeping your puppy (blanket) wrapped around your tiny shoulders.  One of your bedtime rules is to keep puppy closest to you. Other blankets can be on top of you, but puppy has to be the one touching you.

Today, Harper and I brought in treats for you and your classmates.  You specifically asked for cupcakes with Angry Birds and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle ring toppers.  We stayed while you handed out treats and the class sang happy birthday to you.  Mrs. Jansen asked if you would like a helper to pass out cupcakes and napkins, and you told the class to make penguin sounds and you would pick the person with the best sound.  So that was as calm and quiet as you would imagine.  Eventually, you picked a little girl to be your helper.
Mrs. Jansen let you choose a book for your present from her.

You are a popular and friendly little boy.  You always have lots of friends (both boys and girls) who stand next to you and play with you at recess.  Every morning when I drop you off, you rush off to play a soccer game with your group of friends.  I asked you if you ever lose and you told me sometimes you tie with the other team.  I've come into lunch and you are often sitting by boys and girls and cracking them up with your silly voices and jokes you can tell.

You are still an active little guy.  You come home with holes in your sweats and jeans from playing at recess. You are a tough little man too, hardly ever crying or complaining of something hurting you.  During the cold winter days I would ask you if you would like to take gloves to school with you and you'd tell me, "no, I'm tough outside".

You have become so responsible this year too.  You are often the first child ready to go in the morning--dressed, breakfast eaten, teeth brushed, shoes on, and backpack ready to go.  You very rarely ask me to tie your shoes anymore.  At the dinner table you like to share about your day and every day you can tell us something you learned at school.  You are a good student and recently moved up to level 10 books (and I don't know what that means, but you were so excited).  You are a good reader and a good speller.   I think you've gotten 10 out of 10 on all your spelling tests except one 9 out of 10.  You like to be challenged in academics and rarely complain about getting your homework done.  You love to read to me at night and be read to, especially Superhero books, and this makes me very happy.   Presley sometimes listens to you read at night and she'll help you sound out words.

You love Logan, like really love him and look up to him in many ways.  He's very good to you too.  You'll often play soccer and basketball with him.  It's a very sweet relationship.  You'd really like to do more skiing with him.  Logan tells me, "I just love my little buddy", referring to you.    Logan has helped you build many Lego sets this year, and you're practically building them yourself at this point.

Harper likes you alot too.  You two like to take baths together that usually ends up with a water mess.  You play a game with two of my rings and a duck (you two always ask for the rings and the duck and two washcloths).  When you're doing your homework after school, Harper says she has homework too and will sit next to you and color while you finish up.   At Logan's games, you two will color or play together (with other kids) to pass the time.

You finally lost 2 teeth this year (bottom middle).  You like milk with your meals.  You like to ride your motorcycle and jump on the trampoline.  You learned how to ride your bike this year.  I love that you'll still hold my hand and give me kisses on the cheek.  When I tuck you into bed, you yell down "I love you mom" like 10 times as I'm walking down the stairs.

You are lucky #7 this year, and we're so lucky you are our son.

Grandma called to wish you a happy birthday.

The Lindholm's bought you an etch-a-sketch.
Haper and Logan wanted a turn to play with it too.
