Missoula Children's Theatre

Ry and Harper's elementary school hosts the Missoula Children's Theatre every year.
This year they were doing the play "Alice in Wonderland".
Harper played the part of a lobster.
They had a song and a dance, but no speaking parts.

Dave and Ry went to the afternoon performance.
Ry had just come from a basketball round robin tournament in Leavenworth.

Logan, Presley, and I went to the evening performance.

Presley as a venus flytrap in "The Frog Prince" as a first grader...

She won the tip-off.

Day 27, Friday, January 27th

Day 28, Saturday, January 28th

Basketball, Birthday parties, and Bob Ross

Ry played in his first AAU Steve Talbot tournament on January 21-23.
He had one game on Friday night, two games on Saturday, and one on Sunday.

Ry scored in each of the games (and they only scored like 20 points per game) so he did great.
Definitely need to work on driving in for an easy lay-in, rather than trying to launch it from way outside.

Logan in his first AAU tournament
(I think he was in 3rd grade here)

Presley went to her friend Ava's birthday party on Saturday night.
I love Presley's texts to me...she was having hair issues and I had left to watch another one of Ry's games.

Ava turned 13 and her mom texted me some pictures.
Presley has a very caring group of friends.
They went out to eat at Sumo's Hibachi grill and Presley took a "shot".

Over Christmas break, Ry and Dave started watching some Bob Ross episodes on Netflix.

Ry was telling us about his day at school and said Mrs. Baeir said in class, "oh, that was a mistake." and Ry responded with a Bob Ross quote, "we don't make mistakes, we make happy accidents."
Ry's teacher responded that that was such a nice thought.
His friend Lauren leaned over and said, "do you watch Bob Ross?" and then drew him this picture and gave it to him the next day.
(I don't watch Bob Ross but Dave told me he refers to squirrels as "little devils" and Lauren included that in her drawing.)

Table Talk

We have always been very consistent with eating dinner together.
But this year (particularly since high school basketball started), we are pretty hit and miss with gathering around the table.

Amy bought us our first box of Table Talk cards many years ago for Christmas and we've since bought a couple others with different conversation starters.

The kids ask for Table Talk and it's fun to hear their responses.

On January 19th, we did a few rounds of table talk.

Do you share any of your family's physical traits?
Harper:  "yes, I look like dad"
Everyone:  "Presley looks like mom"

Do you prefer to play inside or outside?
Presley:  Very quickly "inside"
Ry and Logan:  "outside"

If you had to live with another family for a year which family would you choose?
Logan:  "probably the Gillin's because me and Colby's schedule is so similar it wouldn't be an issue."
Presley:  "Someone I knew well, like Amy's family."

What personality trait has gotten you in the most trouble?
Logan:  "sarcasm"

Which of the five senses would you be saddest to lose?
Presley:  very quickly "taste"
Logan:  "sight"
Rylan:  "hearing"
Harper:  "smell"

If you had all of your wishes granted, what problems would you have?
Ry:  "none, because one of my wishes would be to never have problems."

When you receive two invitations at the same time how do you decide which one to accept?
Harper:  "whoever I liked the best"
Presley:  "I would try to go to both, like 1/2 and 1/2 of each of their parties."
Logan:  "whoever has the most food".
Rylan:  "this is too hard.  I hope that never happens"

How are you different from everyone else?
Harper:  "I don't like to wear clothes."

Day 16, Monday, January 16th
Dave bought some "reader" glasses today.
Harper told him, "you look just like Joe."

Day 17, Tuesday, January 17th

I loved getting his texts.

Day 20, Friday, January 20th
The Inauguration of our 45th President, Donald Trump

Day 21, Saturday, January 21st

I'll just keep my dark circles, thank you very much :)

She lined them up so perfectly after school today.
(We're waiting on her new bed frame so her mattress is on the floor for now)

Day 12, Thursday, January 12th
Getting homework done tonight.

Day 13, Friday, January 13th
Presley went to a friends house after practice tonight and they went to dinner.
I love the way she loves her siblings.

Day 14, Saturday, January 14th
Grandma and Papa came to watch Logan's game tonight vs Eisenhower.
He didn't start the game (starters never seem to be consistent) but ended with 18 points.

Lea's Day-Lea's, Week 1 (2017)

Day 2, Monday, January 2nd
The new year brought more new snow.
Presley and Ry are at the top racing Harper and Logan on her new tube.

Day 3, Tuesday, January 3rd
I was getting the kids' folders ready for school and saw this in Harper's folder.
How to Make the Grinch Grin?
I will give him a hug and I will give him a nap.
I giggled at her "reverse psychology" last sentence...I will tell him not to smile.

Day 4, Wednesday, January 4th
A cold, cold morning

Day 5, Thursday, January 5th
Doing cartwheels while waiting for Presley's basketball practice to end.

Day 6, Friday, January 6th
Cuddling with Harper at the end of a long 4-day week.
Getting back into the routine was a little tough on all of us.

Day 7, Saturday, January 7th
A winter storm cancelled Logan's game vs. Sunnyside.
