Sunnyslope Seniors

There were lots of senior last-week activities that we were so looking forward to.
One of those was when the Seniors walk through their elementary school and middle school and teachers and students line the hallways and give high fives.
Harper, Rylan, and Logan had been talking about this day for a long time!
And of course, that couldn't happen...

But!
I texted a few of the parents I knew from Sunnyslope, and organized a Sunnyslope Senior Day for Sunday, May 31st.
Several grads came in their caps and gowns to take pictures in front of their elementary school.
And another parent texted some teachers and they came too.
Each 5th grader writes a letter to themselves to be opened at their graduation, and the teacher gives them this at the elementary walk through, and they came with these too.

Kelly G. took lots of pictures for us all!

With the teachers that knew about it and showed up.

(Reading Colby's letter)

Reading his own to himself.

And then Mrs. King told them that they were all going to sit in a circle and read their letters out loud to one another (if a parent had said this, there is no way they would have done it, but they all listened to their 5th grade teacher).

Logan reading his out loud to the group.
( I asked permission from Logan to post his letter)
They were all very similar and funny like this.

This was one of the girls in his 5th grade class....she read her letter out loud and it specifically mentioned her having a crush on Logan N.

Ten Things to Love about Quarantine

Some Good News
We are huge "The Office" fans here and to watch John Krasinski (Jim) put on a show from his home office on all the good news of the week has put a smile on our face.
And the graduation episode, TEARS!
We watched on YouTube

5th Day Dinner
I told Dave early on in quarantine that I would make dinner 4 days in a row and then the 5th day would be a take out/pick up curbside option.
We do usually eat out once or twice a week anyways, but the 5th day isn't always on a Saturday or Sunday, so  it's kind fun to order something on a Tuesday or Thursday :)...it's the little things!
Its become a family joke to ask me ,"are we on the 5th day?" (because I hate when I hear the question, "what's for dinner?" 5 times a day)
We try to order locally to support restaurants, but have also had Red Robin and Chipotle.

Drive Through Birthday Parades
I've only been to one of these but Presley has participated in a couple of birthday parades!
How fun!  The signs, the honking and waving, and throwing candy!  A great alternative to an at-home party.

And last night, Logan's Aguilitas soccer team had a drive by graduation parade!
The ambulance even showed up with lights flashing.

Family Walks
We are a busy family!  We do lots of traveling with sports and work, especially in the spring, and I know I've complained about the go, go, go piece of it in the past.
So to have everything finished (before it really even started) has been a weird adjustment.
But one thing I'll take away from quarantine is the gift of family time (like oodles and oodles of it)
We take a family walk almost every night.

Laundry is caught up
I'm never caught up on laundry, but I am now.
The kitchen might be always dirty now so maybe its a bit of a trade off.

TV shows that are filmed at home
The new normal has been to watch shows like Jimmy Fallon and the Today Show be filmed from their homes with no audience.
Weird and something I won't forget!

Ways we Stay Connected
If I wasn't thankful for technology before, I certainly am now.
Facebook, Facebook Messenger for Kids, FaceTime, SnapChat, Instagram, Zoom Meetings, FlipGrids, Google Meets, and texting has all taken on an enormous role in communicating with those we love!

Staying up Late/Sleeping In
It goes without saying that we love the freedom of our current school and work schedule!
Except Chewy, who seems to appreciate a 6 AM wake up/pee break.
Re-entry in September is going to be tough--I'm calling it now!

Memes
I fully understand that we've been in a pandemic, but sometimes we all need a little humor too.
Memes make me laugh.

Kindness in Humanity
We've always needed more of this!

I love the way our community has shown kindness to each other.
I love the world has shown kindness to each other.
I love hearing and reading stories of the different ways we are supporting one another.
We need to keep this up!

Our Life in Quarantine Part 3

Lots of family time, talk of essential vs. non-essential workers and businesses,  lots of recognition for frontline workers. and sadly, the politicalization of COVID-19 and when and how to re-start the economy (Washington State/Govenor Inslee have introduced a four part phase-in plan)

Social Distancing is enforced/encouraged everywhere you go!

Sports:
We are desperate to watch any kind of sporting event right now.  The Summer Olympics have been cancelled, and the NBA and MLB is postponed, As a matter of fact, we watched Logan's Moses Lake soccer game from last year on the local channel (they're re-playing former games from all sports and all of the community's high schools).
We watched the Virtual NFL Football Draft.
We watched the 1995 Mariners vs. Yankees Baseball game (Amy texted it out that it was on).
And we tune in every week for Michael Jordan's "The Last Dance" documentary.

All of the elementary schools playgrounds are either locked OR worse, wrapped in yellow Do Not Enter tape.

The Wenatchee Valley College's basketball courts.

Amy sent Logan a 2020 Senior Quarantine shirt.
Amy posted about her 2 Senior athlete nephews.

WHS cheerleaders made special deliveries to the spring athletes

I had to re-join Facebook for a couple reasons.
1.  Lots of graduation information was being posted there.
2.  Harper's friends like to chat over Facebook Messenger Kids.

It was Teacher Appreciation Week in early May.
Harper painted a sign for art one Sunday and we hung it for the week.
And we dropped off Chipotle for her teacher and family.

Schoolwork continued...
Rylan listened to author Dan Geimenhart (The Honest Truth, Good Dog, and a former colleague of Cristy's)
I went to check on Ry late one night and he was up in bed, with his lamp on, reading a magazine.

Presley's basketball coaches held a virtual banquet.
Her teammates voted her Most Improved Player.

Family Time:  Games, Swimming, Walks,  and Barbershop

Driving home from an evening walk.  He loves the open window.

Trying to get Chewy close to the water.

And Memes...

On a long ride with Logan tonight.

Day 151, Saturday, May 30th

Day 152, Sunday, May 31st
We took Sunnyslope Elementary Senior Pics today!

Day 153, Monday, June 1st
Dave left for Montana today in Logan's car (he's trying to spread out the mileage to all of our cars), and a semi threw up a rock that hit Logan's windshield.

Day 154, Tuesday, June 2nd
I came home from getting groceries are Harper was up on the mantle dancing in Logan's sweatshirt.
This is how things are going at this point in quarantine!
