Logan's Regional Tournament

Logan's club team had not played together in a real competitive game since Washington Cup back in February.
We knew we had already been invited to the National Tournament in Indianapolis in July, and we decided to participate in the regional tournament in Yakima to help the boys prepare.

On Saturday morning, Dave woke up feeling sick so I took the kids and drove to Yakima.
They played Cosmos in the first game.  We've played them several times because we're in the same league together, and its always a good match up.
Logan had 2 very good saves, and they won fairly easily.
They played on the turf field this afternoon and it was 120 degrees on the turf.
We drove home that night, and Dave was feeling much better.

Sunday's game was in the afternoon.  Yakima was so hot today, but they did play on grass which helped a little bit.
The refs were stopping and taking water breaks mid-game.
They won River today (who they beat in the Regionals final last year) 3-0.
Grandma and Amy came to watch you today.

I just remembered I had a picture like this from last year...
(September 2016)

Sunday's game was versus a team we had not played ever, GPS Oregon.
The game was delayed for an hour because of lightning storms.
They were a very strong, physical and aggressive team and we squeaked by with a 1-0 win.
Logan had seven saves in the second half.
I think it was one of Logan's best games.
He had lots of spectators for this game.
Logan's coach was so proud of him for getting that shut out!
Headed to the Championship Game tomorrow.
We giggled at Cristy's picture and text!

Tuesday was the Championship game and we had to face the same Oregon team again.
Dave was able to join us and drive today.
Logan, Cholo, and Colby slept for most of the way there.

We had the lead 1-0 until 18 minutes left and they scored to tie it up.
GPS was down a player because of a red card.
It went into overtime with no additional score so we went into another overtime.
We had many chances to score, but just couldn't get it into the back of the net.
With less than one minute to go in the 2nd overtime, the ref called a penalty in the box.
I'm embarrassed to admit how badly Dave and I lost it at that point.
We became "those parents".
There was yelling and screaming at the ref.
I remember Nate's dad saying, "Logan's got this." and looking back, it would have been much nicer for Logan to hear his parents yelling FOR him, rather than AT the referee (who wasn't changing his call anyways).
Oregon scored on the penalty kick and did win the game.
But still, Dave and I carried on.
I walked down the sidelines and threw an umbrella.
I was yelling, "you don't deserve that win", "that was a terrible call".
I know my head was telling me to walk away and cool down, and then one of the moms from the other team shimmied her boobs at me, and whatever self control I thought I could muster, went right out the window.
I acted horribly and out of control.
And I know how awesome it is to win a big game, and to get to go to Nationals. It's a big deal.
I was mostly mad at how we played.  That's not our style to play so lethargic and not "want" the win,  and to be outplayed in the last few minutes.  Oregon wanted that win, and they did deserve it.
I needed one of our moms to remind me that we were already going to Nationals.
The boys definitely acted much more maturely than Logan's parents.
We loaded up in the car and made it to Ellensburg before talking.
We drove by a man driving shirtless on a motorcycle, Dave said something sarcastic and funny, and we were all okay after that.

Joe, Lanae and Cristy were at that finals game and Lanae e-mailed me the next day.

Side Story:  Probably nothing will come of this, but I wanted to make sure I documented it.
A Mexican former professional player who is now a scout was very impressed with Logan's play during our 3rd game (1st game against the Oregon team).  He approached our coach and came to Wenatchee to train our boys for the National tournament.  He approached Dave and they talked through a translator.  He told Dave he could see Logan going professional in the next 2-3 years, and invited Logan to spend a few weeks next summer training with the professionals in the Mexico league.  Dave told him, "you can have him, he eats too much".  Ha!

He was interviewed about our team and their potential in the National Tournament.

Lea's Day-Lea's, Week 25 (2017)

Day 169, Sunday, June 18th
Happy Father's Day!

Day 170, Monday, June 19th
Rylan had basketball camp this week.
We were a little early picking him up so we played at the school's playground.

Day 171, Tuesday, June 20th
Harper has learned to change her own earrings and she does this quite frequently.
Today she asked to put new earrings in my ears and she made us have matching daisies.
I told her, "my goodness, you're changing earrings now and I'm going to blink and you'll be in college."  She said to me, "yep, and Logan will be living in your basement". ha ha!

Day 172, Wednesday, June 21st
A little tickle time with dad on the trampoline

Day 173, Thursday, June 22nd
Preparing for the Regional Tournament.

Day 174, Friday, June 23rd
Watching a movie and drinking an Izze sounds like a perfect summer evening.

Day 175, Saturday, June 24th
A few weeks ago Dave had mentioned reading an article about how many socks people buy because when they get a hole in them, they run to Target and buy a new package.
So when Ry got a hole in his soccer socks this week,  I asked him to run to Big 5 and pick up a pair.  Instead, he whipped out his needle and thread and sewed the hole closed.

Father's Day Week-end

On Friday night, we had a neighborhood BBQ.
The house had a built in trampoline and I thought for sure that Logan would just touch the ground below.  We had fun time visiting.

Joe, Lanae, Cristy, and Danny's family were in town for a baseball tournament for Mathew.
We knew we'd get to see them this week-end too.
Mathew had a really good tournament.
It was fun to watch him play.
Joe, Lanae, and Cristy came over and swam for a bit between games.
This is the only picture I took and that's Dave that's tossing Presley.
The water was warm, and Harper was happy to see Mickey and Geezer.

Sunday was Father's Day.
It took these 2 pictures in a burst...look how fast the kids move after the first picture is taken.

And a half second later...

Amy got the giggles over Dave and her's texts over the last year.
She sent me this screen shot.
(We're all in group texts together, but this is their personal text exchanges.)

And Presley posted a sweet Instagram message.

Grandma and Papa Nelson came over for lunch.
We swam and had pizza (Dave's choice).
(Harper was already feeling the jammies I guess)

They left about 4 and we went to see Cars 3.
Dave remembered there was go-karts down at Town Toyota.
Logan, Presley, and Ry could all drive their own.
There were no double seaters so Harper and I watched.

It was a great first week-end of the summer!

Lea's Day-Lea's, Week 24 (2017)

Day 162, Sunday, June 11th
We looked through Sunnyslope's yearbook tonight and these were the only other pictures (besides their individual school portraits) of Ry and Harper.

Last day of school for Logan, after having to complete some make up math this morning.

Day 165, Wednesday, June 14th
Logan's driving and we realized we were following Dave so he switched lanes to be next to him at the stop light.

Day 166, Thursday, June 15th
Play dates with neighborhood friends.

Day 167, Friday, June 16th
That's Mathew running to first after a great hit.

Day 168, Saturday, June 17th
We got to watch Mathew play baseball today in Wenatchee.

Last Day of School: June 12, 2017

We had one extra 1/2 day on Monday, June 12th to make up for the icy no-school day in the winter.

First day of School:  August 30th, 2016
Last day of school:  June 12th, 2017

There were a few complaints about a 1/2 day Monday (we're used to late start Mondays), but they all were excited it was almost summer!
Maybe Rylan was the most excited for summer!
Hands up in the air!

Dropping off my 7th grader, and picking up my 8th grader

Last Day as a Freshman
(as it turned out, this wasn't his last day of school)

Our very sweet Sunnyslope secretary is retiring.
She is the first person I saw when I registered Logan and Presley nearly 8 years ago.
She has loved on all of the Nelson kids.
We will miss Mrs. Neil!

I picked up Ry and Harper and asked what they wanted to listen to and Ry chose Survivor's Eye of the Tiger!

Our deal with Logan was that he had to have all A's and B's to get his drivers license this summer.
We have been watching that math grade all spring long, and in that last week of school it looked like he would receive a B- for his final grade.
(Everytime I checked that math grade, Logan always had a missing assignment.  We may have been lenient on getting a B- if Logan had at least turned in everything.  Anyways, the missing assignment thing drove us crazy, so we stuck with the A or B grade requirement to drive.)

On the last day of school, Logan texted me that he was going over to his friends' house after school, and I reminded him to check in with his math teacher.

Logan did check with his math teacher, who had not entered in a math test re-take score, so he had to go to school the following morning to do some extra credit assignments (which he would not have had to do at all if he had completed all his regular homework assignments on time).  But anyways, I liked his "You're going to have a driver in August" text.

I dropped him off in the morning on Tuesday to complete the math, and this is him at pick up.  Tuesday, June 13th was Logan's official last day of being a freshman.

And his final freshman report card...Beautiful A's and B's!

This is her summer job.

Day 160, Friday, June 9th
Three moms and I bid at the parent auction on a basketball game against two teachers, and we won it.
Ryan, Mason, Rylan, and Thomas played against Mrs. Gale and Mrs. Baier.
They lost by two.

Day 161, Saturday, June 10th
Running through the sprinklers tonight.
