Dance Recital: June 15th, 2013

Presley and Harper completed their first year of dance with a final recital held at the Performing Arts Center in downtown Wenatchee.  It was a long recital--close to 3 hours.  They each had only one performance.  Harper's class was the second dance and Presley was after the intermission--I think #47.  They were both part of the finale number too.  There were actually two performances, one at 2:00 and one at 7:00.  We all watched the first performance and then I volunteered backstage for the 2nd performance so I didn't have to buy another ticket.  It was a lot of waiting backstage.  Presley brought her IPod and watched Disney and played games.  I wasn't too prepared with Harper--I should have brought something for her too.  They both did their dances wonderfully, I think even better the second performance, despite the long wait.

Both girls were jazzed up after their second performance.  This was on our way out to the car and Presley and Harper was stopping at every lighted area for a picture.  Presley liked this lit up rainbow waterfall downtown.  As you can imagine, they were both super delightful the next morning at 7 AM on only about 8 hours of sleep.

My mom and Grandpa brought some of my Grandma's things they found in her jewelry box.  Harper got the flower box, Logan got the flag pin, Rylan got the whistle (my grandpa said this could have belonged to my Great Grandma Pauline),  Presley got this ring--which I love and have been wearing, and I received this necklace, which is very neat too.

Special Fifth Grade Awards...

Logan received several academic awards, an award for Passport Club, and a plaque for being Vice President of K-Kids this year.

Receiving his K-Kids Plaque--Logan was the only boy officer this year.

Logan also received a special award--The Principal's Leadership Award.  Logan and Courtney Brown won this award.  To be considered for this award, students had to write an essay explaining how they demonstrate leadership qualities.  Teachers, past and present, and the principal decide on the recipients.  After Mrs. Pflug announced the winners, she asked Logan and Courtney to read their essay at the podium in front of the whole school and all the 5th grade parents in attendance.  Logan went first and did a very good job. We have always thought of Logan as a leader and it was so great to see that that is what is seen at school as well.

After the awards assembly we went to tell Logan how proud we were of him and he said that he was really hoping for the Most Athletic Award, which was won by a girl...ha ha!!

Last Days of School

The end of the school year was pretty hectic.  There were lots of field trips, class visits, assemblies and awards to be handed out, and of course, graduations for both of our boys.

The sports awards with Mr. Dotson was on Wednesday morning.  Both Logan and Presley received awards for participating in track, ribbons for placing at the All City Meet, and Logan received another award for being in the 100 Club for the 5th Grade Pacer test.

The last day of school Presley received a special award for scoring 100% on all of her Travel Club tests--once a month third graders were tested on the United States--all of the states and capitals.  She was so embarassed to be called in front of everybody.

Rylan Graduates Kindergarten

Rylan officially graduated from kindergarten on Wednesday, June 12th.  It was an afternoon event (Presley's year was in the evening) and Dave was in surgery.  The teachers announced their names, the students sang songs, and a slideshow of this year's pictures was played.   I asked Ry who he wanted in his class next year and he said, "Dina, Ava Jo, Anessa, Kyla, and Austyn"--all girls!!  Ha!!

Birthday Girl: #39

Eeek!! It's official, I'm only one year shy of 40!!  It was pretty much a regular Tuesday for us, but we did go out to eat dinner and had cake and ice cream so I guess it was a little more special.   Logan came in this morning before he showered and gave me a hug and told me happy birthday.  After school he told me he gave me the gift of "Logan"..ha!

Harper and I made a Costco run this morning and then had a playdate down at Rotary Sprinkler Park.  She took a nice long nap after her hour in the sun.

My mom and dad sent me a birthday package and I received cards in the mail from my Grandpa and Tricia and Danny.  Presley made me a card at school and Ry made me a picture.  He must have told his teacher Ms. Ferrians that it was my birthday because she told me happy birthday in the pick up line after school.

I got a little teary eyed when I saw my Papa's card--its the first one I have ever received which wasn't signed by my Grandma.  I'm not sure why this bugged me...she hadn't really "signed" her cards to us for years...just another example of how her death resonates in small ways.

We went to the Olive Garden for dinner.  We went at about 4:30 because Logan had soccer practice.  Dave and I were laughing because we were definitely eating with the senior citizen crowd, and didn't feel that out of place...ha ha!!

I normally make the kids look nice when we go eat out, but Ry was so happy with his new mini-marathon T-shirt he got at school today for running enough laps this spring to equal 13.5 miles.

A-"MAY"-ZING Month

I wanted to make sure I posted more pictures of our fun-filled May days.

Logan and three of his friends (Colby, Riley, and Carter) played in the Apple Blossom 3 on 3 tournament down at Walla Walla Park.  They played in a 5th/6th grade age division and they didn't place but they did have a fun time. (photos by Kelley Gillin)

 

Logan also had a part in the 5th grade play "The Shrub Steppe Cafe".  He was a sagebrush and had two lines.

Presley let Ry and Harper play beauty salon one night.

I made these mason jar vases for Teacher Appreciation and Mother's Day. 

Dave did a lot of yard work with Ry's help and grilled for us on some warm evenings.

Logan and Ry practiced basketball and wrestled with Dad on the trampoline (Presley is under that pile).

Harper had a dance performance at The Pybus Market and we volunteered at the school's book fair.

All the kids played Minecraft for far too many hours.  Dave and I don't get the appeal of this game at all. 

Logan had to get 3 shots for middle school.  He fainted shortly after this shot as he started to walk out the door.  He about gave his mom a heart attack, bruised his chin, and we've been giving him a bad time ever since.  

He also had "the talk" (puberty) at school.  I thought we had done a good job of preparing him and talking about him changing but apparently not:  I picked him up after school on that day and he got in the car and said, "geez Mom you could have warned me there would be diagrams". Ha ha!!

We have had some relaxing and non rushed week-ends.  Presley seems to enjoy taking her time on Sunday mornings reading the comics. 

And finally, at no point do you ever want to be awoken at 6:30 on a Saturday morning with this.
