Summer Heat Wave

The Pacific Northwest had a major heat wave the weekend of June 25th-July 4th.

Lots of temperature records were broke around Washington State, even in Wenatchee, where temps rose to 117 degrees.

All outdoor activities, sports practices, farmers market, YMCA camps, and even the 4th of July activities were cancelled.  Restaurants and coffee shops closed early for the day due to extreme heat.

It was definitely hot and uncomfortable here, but we have air conditioning and a pool.  Many areas in the Northwest are not prepared for that type of heat.

Our area and others places around the state opened up cooling centers where people could gather and stay as long as they wanted in order to stay out of the extreme heat.

Ry had a soccer tournament in Salem, OR the weekend of June 25-27th.
He played in 104 degree temps.  They took several water breaks throughout the games.
Harper tried to stay cool under her umbrella.

They were able to swim at the hotel's indoor pool.

I stayed home with Presley, who had to work up at Slidewaters.
She said it was still busy in the heat, and the managers brought lots of popsicles for the workers.
She bought a bucket hat to keep the sun off her face.

Presley created this menu and let me choose the lunch she made me.

There were lots of memes made from this image.
Wenatchee was listed at 1104 degrees on a live weather broadcast.

Grandma and Papa loaded up Archie and their motorhome and went camping for a few days.
We did some night swimming.
And watched the Disney movie Luca.

Texted with Logan

The heat melted a battery operated candle.

These were the dog days of summer
(Harper with a filter on, coming home from Salem).

Day 178, Sunday, June 27th

Made it back home and Presley was back from work.

Day 179, Monday, June 28th

Harper's first day of summer school.
No one encouraged her to attend but I thought some of her friends were going to do it, and I thought that it might be good for maintaining skills entering 6th grade to have this bit of extra time, especially after this weird COVID school year.
Turns out,  Harper spent a lot of the time being "teacher" to those who were attending school to catch up.
Not a bad thing to be a leader and a helper, but not what I expected academically wise.

Day 180, Tuesday, June 29th

Ry playing basketball at the YMCA.

Day 181, Wednesday, June 30th

An evening water balloon fight

Day 182, Thursday, July 1st
